Ok, the welfare system is not a completely bad thing, it is the people that abuse it that make it bad & it's a shame because I do feel that sometimes people do need help but government support isn't really the answer. The one thing that bothers me about our welfare system though, comes from the thought of what happened before the great depression, and the creation of the welfare program.
Now I don't have any personal experience in knowing how things ran in the early 20th century but from what I understand people did not need the government's help. They did fine on their own, if we fell under hard times, like say the Great Depression, people did not have money, they lost it to the stock market crash, banks not having their money, etc. There was no welfare system in place and people still made it through the hardships because they would barter their skills, goods, services, etc. for other goods/services. Example: So I am a roofer, you need a roof and you are a farmer, well I will do your roof for some chicken, eggs, milk, etc whatever the farmer is willing to pay and you are willing to accept.
In today's society though, we are all brainwashed to believe we are dependent on the government, and there are still people that aren't like that because they do whatever they can and use the government help as a last resort, if at all. I think the welfare system creates poverty more than it reduces it because a good percentage of people once in the system, stay in the system because if they try to get out of it, it actually hurts them. I know a couple of people that, if they get a job and make $xxx.xx then they lose the support from the welfare system, the money they make when off welfare is not much better than when on the system. So the person usually ends up back into the system because it is easier to stay in the system through loop holes then to work hard and earn the money they get. I know this is a probably very unsympathetic & maybe its because I'm exposed to the corrupt more so than the good but I just don't understand or like how these people on welfare are living better than you and I, welfare is meant to help you get on your feet, not be an alternative to earning money through work. I don't like how the people on welfare, a good number of them wear jewelry like kings/queens, have more food than is necessary (and so some get obese), have shelter paid for by the government, etc. I've seen people abuse the system so much at the grocery store that they share the food stamps with their families or use it for their friends, that is not fair to the tax payers who pay into the system through taxes, medicare, social security, etc.
Ok, I think i'm done with this subject for now, lol
